Gripes, grumps and grumbles………..

First, this won’t be the last time I mumble grumpily about other blogs…it isn’t the first and knowing me, there will be others.

But this afternoon I was just interrupted yet again by an extremely LOUD commercial while trying to read a post.

I understand that bloggers monetize their blogs. I even understand why they do so.

BUT………….

I absolutely, positively hate with a purple passion those dad-blasted commercials ya’ll are showing!

Commercials are one of the biggest reasons I no longer watch national television.  It is probably the second biggest reason I don’t watch ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.  The first is nothing is worth watching but that is post for a different day.

I DON’T watch television because every twelve minutes some screaming moron appears to startle the crap out of me trying to get me and my purse to part ways for the “newest, biggest, brightest, most improved” piece of junk imaginable!

I could easily ignore the blog-mercials except for one little thing….they all SCREAM at me! I HATE that!

Why can’t people who blog find some other way to monetize the blog?  Do they HAVE to have a commercial for whatever nonsense that SHOUTS at them or blasts them out of their respective computer chairs?

Isn’t there some way of making those commercials just a tiny bit quieter?

I was reading an absolutely lovely blog this afternoon, and just getting absorbed in the flowing prose when out of nowhere this horrible voice pops up and advertises adult diapers by shouting about “leakage”! SERIOUSLY???? A blog post? about BOOKS…..not about leakage!

If you absolutely HAVE to stick ads in your blogs…please…PLEASE try and modify the volume before you set those blogs loose on us all.  PLEASE!

  2. My my Susan are you actually getting grumpier in your later years. Did I ever tell you that I used to sell advertising for a living ? I sold advertising for a local paper. My mum in law used to say that I had spoilt the paper by selling too much advertising. I was just doing my job

How else would the public know what was new and available !

    1. I do so adore you! Actually I am more open to airing my grumbles….not grumpier. I am far more mellow than I used to be. I was quite the rabble rouser in my day!

  4. I know that because I have a free WordPress blog, there are often ads that appear at the bottom of my posts, but I don’t know if any of those ads scream at readers. If so, it’s not me. I’m not monetizing my blog. The only way to rid my posts of those ads would be to upgrade to the premium service for four bucks a month, which I just might do at some point. So if it was my post you were reading when you were assaulted by adult diapers, know that it wasn’t me who assaulted you.

    1. nope. Not yours. You have quiet little ads that never startle me…I have actually found myself rather hypnotized by your ads. lol

  5. Not an issue with me. Not enough folks are willing to pay to advertise on my blog….must be the content, I guess. Who, in today’s contemporary world, wants to read about love, compassion and justice?

  6. I will add, that I don’t like the blogs filled with many, many ads. I have muted sound at my computer and I do only turn it on, when I wish to listen to something special.
Down in right corner of your screen, you have several shortcuts. One of them use to have with the sound to do. Try to click around there and you will find out to mute, when needed.
I have stopped following blogs because of those many ads, where I need to close some of them just to read the blog. Even without sound, I find them very annoying.

    1. Irene, there is a special place in Heaven (or on Earth of you prefer)! Thanks. I FOUND the sound! woot! It is now turned off and for the first time I enjoyed a blog post that has commercials….cause I didn’t hear a thing!

      1. Great to hear, that you found the sound, Suze 🙂

  7. I’ve pretty well fooled the screaming commercials–I work with the sound muted. What drive me crazy are those jumping gifs people put in. Or–hell, I think they’re called gifs. I don’t use them and haven’t bothered to make sure I even know their names. (That’ll show ’em.)

    1. I’m with you on that…are they called Goofs maybe?

  8. I can’t stand those loud ads, either! I have had to turn the sound down on my speakers really fast, and even then, I sometimes just delete the blog. Some have songs that automatically play too. Those GIFs are so distracting to me, makes my eyes go funny while trying to read in between them.
