This week the prompt is “Time”.
When I was a teen one of my favorite performers was Jim Croce. He wrote a song that still resonates with me today called “Time in a Bottle”. The beginning of the song goes like this……..
“If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I’d like to do
Is to save every day
‘Til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you”
Most of the songs from my teen years are still stuck in my head these so many years later…but this one seems written for today more than others floating around in my memories.
I think about the children slaughtered and think they should have had more time.
I think about the young men and women who have died overseas fighting non-wars…they should have had more time.
I thought, when I was a teen, that our country would have evolved so much more than it has. Was all the protesting of my youth in vain?
No, after seeing the young people yesterday, I know that it wasn’t.
They learned their history very well, learning how to peacefully protest…how to raise their voices to bring about an understanding of why change is needed, and working specifically for that change.
They gave me back my hope for the future with their actions and words.
