gazing balls

Barbara (TeleportingWeena)  asked about a cracked mirror..and I responded with “I make garden balls out of them”…which brought about a desire for her to see them.

So Barbara..here are a couple that I have made in the past few years and sold.

  1. Very creative, Suze. By the way, what is your son’s name serving in the DMZ? I want to remember him in my quiet time.

  2. I’m marveling at how beautiful these gazing balls are, Suze! Now, I have questions…like, what’s in the middle of them? Is it an actual ball? Thanks so much for showing me photos of them. 🙂

    1. I use (are you ready?) chicken wire and styrofoam..first a ball styro bace, then chicken wire wrapped around..then my mortor and then the mirror pieces or mosaic pieces. the marbles were actually the most difficult….lol

  6. Gorgeous! I adore gazing balls, especially the blown glass mirrored type. Victorians loved these.

What kind of mortar? Like doing mosaics? I save old CDs and intend to make “disco balls” witst.h them. Never thought about lawn ornaments.

    1. use a “dry” mortar for outside projects. it is very similar to concrete but has no lime in it. You can find it at a crafts store like michaels or Hobby Lobby.
