this is getting out of hand…….

I am sick to death of the STUPID RACISTS!

Since we elected the idiot-in-chief, people have allowed their meanness, their absolute fear and loathing of those unlike themselves take over.

Jill Dennison wrote an incredible blog post about it which everyone should read.  Go HERE to check it out.

I saw it firsthand yesterday at a local store.

Yesterday, I went to the local wally world to get milk.

As I was standing in line to use the checkout a lovely, older African American man was having difficulty with the check out scanner. He politely requested assistance from the Caucasian female employee standing next to the cashiers, who turned on him and shouted “God, why are you people so stupid?”.

I was appalled.

I said to her “what is your problem?” She ignored me.

He looked embarrassed, and once again asked for assistance. The woman said “I don’t have to mess with YOU PEOPLE. Go back to wherever you came from!”…that got the seven or eight of us waiting at different lines to object vocally, and LOUDLY told her that her attitude was totally wrong, completely racist and we wouldn’t stand for it. The clerk shut up.

One girl left the line and went to complain to the manager. I helped the gentleman (the stupid scanner wasn’t working) and apologized for the clerk’s attitude.

This sweet gentleman said “thank you for standing up for me. No one has ever done that before”.  I know he meant, “no white person has done that before.” and was saddened…and slightly ashamed.

The manager came over, and apologized to the gentleman.

Americans used to be known for their acceptance of others. We welcomed immigrants, and valued their contributions to our towns. Now, it seems we fear anyone that looks a bit different and are willing to shout at them to go away.  It has to stop. IT HAS TO STOP!

  2. Suze, maybe it has always been a part of America. The trump culture has pulled it from its cesspool into mainstream America.

    1. Yep. That’s my stance on this as well. They have their messiah. Suddenly, their backassward mindsets are now acceptable. I’ll be glad when they all have to crawl back under the rocks from which they’ve slithered.

      2. No doubt. I’d have gone postal on that clerk. Who the fuck does she think she is?!? Oh wait, I know: A FUCKING CLERK AT WAL-MART!!! And she’s calling somebody else stupid? I’m afraid I’d have been arrested if I witnessed that kinda shit. 😠

  3. I sure hope she was fired on the spot. I would’ve caused a hell of scene right there in that check out line. What an asshole.

  4. Thanks for sharing!.. the issue, and many others, have always been there…today’s technology has made it known or given it a voice… 🙂

  5. Not that I like what happened but I certainly like the reactions of you customers!

  6. I really hope she was fired, she certainly should be. The upside is that people actually spoke up. I’m seeing that people are starting to be more likely to speak up and speak out. What I also seethe over is all the subtle racism, those that try to hide it but it’s there in the little things they say, their reactions and being oblivious to their white privilege.

  7. This actually made me feel physically ill. Good on you for challenging it. And I am glad it was not just you.

  8. I was worried this was gonna be another “ostrich story,” but nope. The fact that so many spoke up gives me a bit of hope. But it’s disconcerting that somebody would just up and call somebody stupid–loudly–in front of everybody. And a paying customer no less. I wrote about this problem a couple of days ago regarding customer service and my own job…is customer service going extinct?

Anyway, deplorable clerk, and I would’ve been seething right alongside you guys, spitting angry. That’s not right, and I hope she did get fired… and also, I hate those self-checkout thingies. Never go to one because yes, they mess up.

  9. I agree that was deplorable behavior and she should have been fired on the spot, but I don’t think it has anything to do with our current president. I think people are just getting callous, and saying whatever comes to their minds without fear of consequences because of the culture we have allowed to become lazy, uncaring, intitled, incompetent slobs.

  10. Suze, thanks for sharing your experience, and thank for taking a stand.

It’s shocking. Some years ago, a Black school principal shared with me how she was at a parents teachers meeting, and a White parent came in, walked passed her, and approached every White person present asking if they were the principal. In other words, that’s another assumption that publicly humiliates POC.

  11. Unless you are 100% Native American, and you live in the United States, your ancestors came from “somewhere else,” either willingly…or NOT. There’s NO excuse for this kind of behavior. I’m so proud of you for standing up for what’s right. (HUGS!!!)

  12. I have already responded elsewhere, so I will say only ‘thank you’ for sharing my work, and can we p-l-e-a-s-e just start caring about our fellow man, no matter if he is dark or light, Christian or atheist, male or female, straight or gay … we are all members of the human race! Let’s act like it!
