Sparky’s SYW, Oct 29, 2018

Sparky has a weekly SYW  (she took over for the wonderful Cee who had too much on her plate!) and this is the latest installment. Why not join in?

Name something you wouldn’t want to run into in a dark forest or in an abandoned building.

Share the creepiest thing that’s ever happened while you were alone.

What would you like your last words to be?

Do you believe in any ‘mythical’ monsters like chupacabras or shadow people?

How long do you think you would last in a horror movie?

Are you afraid of or find clowns creepy?

In the zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice?

Have you ever had your tarot cards read?

Anyone know the reason behind putting candles in jack-o-lanterns?

Do you think putting special emphasis on certain holidays – like Halloween is ‘spooky’ for example — is a good idea or just more mindless entertainment for the masses?

and my answers are…..

a spider web

never really had anything creepy happen. I have had horrible things happen,m boring theings, stupid things, fun things, happy things…but no creepy stuff. Sorry

“Oh shit. Am I still here?”

I would last to the end of a movie. I DO know that the minute the icky music starts it is time to get the hell out of the way.

No, I think clowns are just plain stupid. Always have had.

a bazooka…with an endless supply of rounds and some damned good ear plugs

Nope. Think tarot is just another way to part me from my money.

Turnip lanterns were carried by kids on both All Soul’s Day and All Saints Day to commemorate their dead. This was a Roman Catholic tradition during the middle ages. (never ask religious questions of someone with a religious degree! lol)

Honestly, I believe the “holidays” became nothing more than commercial enterprises at the turn of the 20th century. No one seems to “celebrate” anything as a religious holiday anymore. Candy and costume makers at halloween, candy and toy makers at Christmas, candy yet again at Easter. Forget the reasons for each one, people just don’t care enough to celebrate without “buying” crap.

  1. I’ll take note of your degree! 🙂 And you’re correct of course. There’s legend (in Ireland or Scotland) about a man who was cursed to wander the moors with nothing but a carved out turnip with a candle in it for light. The All Souls Day and such add a more weighty meaning to the candle in the pumpkin. Thanks for sharing that!

Thanks also for participating in Share Your World! 🙂
