Mel at Sparksfromacombustiblemind, shares her world with us through a series of questions…..and we share ours with her (and you).

QUESTIONS:

What’s the closest thing you’ve experienced to real magic?

photo of Sinai at midnight

Waking up in the middle of the Sinai Desert at midnight and being engulfed in stars. the Milky Way taking up the entire sky………….seeing planets, stars, meteors all “close to hand”………..

Who is the messiest person you know? And why?

a woman I prefer not naming actually. She can junk up a brand new car in a matter of hours..old McDonald’s bags on the floor, spilled drinks or food in the back seat and front, cigarette ashes all over the seats and floor mats…dog hair all over..kid’s fingerprints on every window, and usually a bag of dirty clothes or laundry that she had failed to take to a laundromat for a week somewhere behind the driver’s seat. She can take a spotless house and turn it into a “fleabag motel” in a matter of hours….complete with roach infestation. I blame it on her attitude of “the kids are my best friends and I LOVEEEEE babies”. Kids are NOT their mother’s best friends…they are the children and need to be taught some manners and respect for other’s belongings.

If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

I had several responses to this, but…the more I thought about it the more I decided I really do NOT want to know the absolute truth. Questions about the beginning of the Universe, the beginning of life, Darwin’s theories and those of Einstein or Pascal or Gauss……..why men think the way they do……..why women think the way they do……….was Jesus a real person or just an amalgamation of historic characters AND myths combined…….is there just ONE God or thousands………or none at all?

Is there life on other planets in other universes or are all of us here on Earth the only forms of life anywhere? (what a stupid thought actually…of course there is life, the law of averages simply precludes the idea we are it). What DO cats think when they are looking at us?

Nope, I don’t want to know the absolute truth of anything……it takes the mystery out of life.

What benefits does art provide society? Does art hurt society in any way?

wow…esoteric responses aside………..it makes us FEEL.  The only way I can think it may harm society is through religious art actually. For centuries a Jewish man has been shown as a European one.  Thinking about the possible ramifications of that helps explain the outright bigotry of the deeply religious.

The devil is shown as dark skinned, as are the Jews at his trial and Judas. This is art as propaganda.

What’s something positive you’d like to share?  Can be a smile, a joke, or music..anything that gave you a lift this week!

George has an appointment with the Veteran’s Administration clinic! Finally!

  3. Great answers! Thank you for participating in Share Your World this week and giving us all things to ponder. Religion has always been biased, depending on what and who one might worship. And if a person is deeply religious, they KNOW that Jesus was a Jew. Doesn’t change who He was, not to the thinking person. And admittedly, a LOT of ‘deeply religious’ don’t have an original thought in their tiny little minds. The coloration of those pieces? I have to place when they were created and for whom as culprits. Nobody does that any more (that I’m aware of) and obviously the past few sentences are my opinion. Nobody has to agree. Thanks Suze!

    1. still happening with the coloration….found a painting online that was done in 2012..showing Jesus as a red haired white man with a straight nose and bright blue eyes, and all f the disciples (except Peter for some reason) were dark skin large nosed middle easterners…..crazy!

  4. “For centuries a Jewish man has been shown as a European one.” Well, as an atheist who believes that man created God in man’s image, it doesn’t surprise me at all that the white European master artists would depict Jesus in their art as a white, European man. I’m just sayin’. 😱

    1. I know..and as my dad was an art historian I know that the masters all used people of their own time as the faces of Jesus, et al. For example the one we all “know’ is a Medici prince………total opposite of who he was supposed to be representing. BUT, it annoys the heck out of me that so many people in THIS time still think it is the actual “Jesus”.
