I need something………

I have finished the bath renovation BUT…………I have a gigantic space on the wall with NOTHING on it.

big blank wall space

There used to be two bath towel bars there…but in tearing out the tub and replacing with a shower, the towel bars were moved to the opposite wall.

pretty new shower curtain and new towel bars

So, there’s a big blank space that I suddenly realized this morning is driving me a bit insane. I keep adding things around the room but that space still greets me with a huge smirk and a “you are so bad at decorating Suze!” attitude.

I’ve added a few pieces that I love onto the shelves on the far wall………..

and re-stained the stained glass window………

I even went so far as to review all the artwork that other bloggers have posted to see if anything could be utilized in the space…they are all of them amenable to people buying their work!

But,……………..I don’t know exactly what kind of artwork I want for the space. It is at least 4×5 FEET of space on the wall……..not that I want something to take up ALL the space, but something in the middle of it would be nice.

PLEASE give me some (constructive) criticism or a couple of ideas what I can do.

The primary colors are Platinum (a soft dovish gray) and White..with Caribbean blue accents..except for hat shower curtain…..which has all those colors as accents but is a primary burgundy.

HELP!!!

  1. When I did our ensuite bathroom, a small space about 2x2m, the space above the towel rack was like … well, a flat and boring bit of emptiness – so I filled almost the whole space with a picture (one of mine) printed out, laminated and framed, and put in place. Now, every time a person walks in, they’re hit in the face with the bright colours of the Flinders Ranges at sunset. the response is always interesting, too, the first time someone sees it …
Of course, I no longer have the original pic, but I have that one, and the memory is fresh every day.
Small pics can sometimes make a wall feel smaller, as if it’s hunched into a position – a big pic is an all-out impression, immediate, eye-catching. Of course, that’s just me – I like to shock people.

  2. What about painting your own mural using some of those lovely colours?
Is it definitely artwork you want in that space and not something practical like a heated towel rail or a mirror or storage cabinet? Or even hooks, from which you could hang things, either photos or trinkets or practical items?
I saw a blogger who had made a feature out of driftwood and shells which looked lovely, but it would probably not go with the other lovely features you have.

  6. You’re so talented–why don’t you get a canvas and paint something yourself? I bet you could create something better than any piece of commercial art!

  7. Pinterest might have some ideas you’d like, or at least get your creative juices flowing. I’d suggest putting “dove gray bathroom décor” in as keyword spread, and see what happens. When you see it, you’ll know it. Usually, there’s a heart/body ping that follows! 🙂

  8. Sunset or sunrise on a beach? A mosaic in sea shells? A dovecot and birds in flight?
My grandfather painted a picture of a window overlooking the sea on his bathroom wall.
He also painted a leafy forest at the bottom of his stairs, and you can almost walk into that!
    Good luck. It looks great.

      1. He was a master carpenter but loved to paint. He painted a cat on a wall in my sisters and my bedroom when we were kids. You felt like trying to open the gate, it was that real. Apparently it was discovered when the new tenants/owners were decorating and stripped off the wallpaper.
Gramps passed away in 1974 so I doubt the paintings are still in his old house.

  9. Maybe a lovely crafty mosaic or something, like most have already said ‘bright and colourful and cheery’.
