I was just wandering around my little “follow” feed this morning and was struck by a post challenge………
Cara wrote one particular line that is still floating around in my head hours later…“Personally, I think that one of the best ways to combat negative thinking, feeling and attitudes is to cultivate healthier, happier, more positive ones.”
She is so right! I have been thinking over the past few months and finding a comparison between the stresses George and I have had, our reactions to those stressors and the sentence Miss Caramel wrote…..
Through everything that we have lived through…from the open heart surgery and the extreme fear that my beloved husband would not survive, to the second operation, then my illness, money concerns (George had to retire and we had no retirement fund)…the loss of his job was huge for my husband…all of these things we were able to cope more easily with an attitude of gratitude.
We lived each day as if it were actually our last one. We celebrated our love for each other..our love for the planet we live on…our love for neighbors, friends and family….
And in doing so, our health got better…our living circumstances got better…everything simply got better.
I woke up this morning to blue skies and sunny warm weather. Flowers are blooming..my iris are just about to bloom. Birds were chirping and fighting over the seed George put out last night. Children across the street were chasing each other around their yard screaming and laughing..and it didn’t annoy me, but made me smile.
I may not be able yet to take a deep breath without coughing up half a lung, but it doesn’t bother me in the least.
I may be 40 pounds over my “ideal” weight, but it’s okay.
My cataracts may be giving everything a yellow, cloudy haze…but I can still see the sun, moon and stars…I can still see to write this nonsense, and I can still see my grandkid’s sweet smiles.
And honestly? What more could a person want?
